Ready To Sell Your Home In 2020?
It is easy to see why a lot of people decide to sell their home in the New Year. January is a time when many people look to make a fresh start. This is the month when people create resolutions about their health, happiness, career and relationships.
It is also the time of year many people look to make sweeping changes, which is why a lot of people look for a new home. The New Year Surge is a real thing in the UK property market, and anyone looking to buy or sell their home at this time should be active.
People want to move in New Year
However, more and more people decide to start the process in December, rather than waiting for New Year to roll around. Both Zoopla and Rightmove have advised agents of the increase in demand for homes which occurs in the week between Christmas and New Year.
Zoopla has informed estate agents that they expect to receive a 60% increase in relation to month-on-month visitors. They also expect an 80% increase in applicant and value leads throughout the festive period.
Rightmove have also made announcements relating to the increase in property searches at this time of year. They have previously experienced a 228% increase in page views for the week which runs from Boxing Day to New Years Day.
The Chief Commercial Officer of Zoopla, Andy Marshall, released a statement, saying:
Much like the perfect Christmas lunch, having a successful January for agents is all about preparation and getting as much as possible done in advance. Whether it is the basics like having your stock and photography up to date and having enough staff to deal with enquiries, or something a little more complex like taking advantage of different online marketing tools, there are a number of quick and easy steps you can take. Either way, the opportunity is great and the rewards are there for the taking.
Anyone looking to sell their home should look to get in front of buyers when they are searching for property. However, not every vendor is keen to sell their home at this time, or go through the process of preparing their home. This provides you with an opportunity to gain an advantage over these buyers. When there is less competition in the market, you increase your chances of connecting with likely buyers.
Andy Marshall also said:
We know from Boxing Day onwards people begin to think about the future. Whether that is downsizing as kids have flown the nest, upsizing to meet the needs of a growing family, or a move to be closer to the grandkids, there are opportunities aplenty. There is no better feeling than a winning start to the year, and here at Zoopla we are ready to support agents with everything they need to have a successful 2020.
